Let’s Take A Cooking Class

Hey, you have to cook, you might as well have fun doing it right? It's a great time of year to learn something new. Try a free class from Craftsy.

It’s August and that means it’s time for school to start again.
I personally love this time of year. We’re getting close enough to fall (my favorite season of all) to believe it’s actually going to show up. (Not that the actual current weather is giving us any hope, just the calendar!)

It’s a new school year and we get to make new goals and new plans, buy new books (some of you completely understand my excitement in buying new books) and make new friends. Oh, and learn new things.

At least our kids get to learn new things.

My daughter is going to be learning some cool things, like Nutrition Science, Dance History, and Photographing children at play.
She’s a talented girl and I love for her to be learning skills that fit her natural design (but that’s a different post.)

But what about us grown ups?

We understand the value of our children learning new things and remaining engaged, but are we continuing to learn?

I personally love learning new things. I love the challenge, the growth, and sometimes the results of what I’ve learned. (Let’s be honest, just because we learn something new doesn’t necessarily mean we get good at it or continue to love it.) It’s more about the process though, but it’s pretty cool when I do learn a new skill that I can continue to use.

Right now I’m in the process of learning food photography. If you dare, take a look at some of my older posts. You’ll see that my photography is getting better. Whew! Thankfully so! I wouldn’t want to torture you much longer with those awful photos from my earlier blogging days.

Along with some great books on food photography, I’m learning via video from an online class from Craftsy.

Have you met Craftsy?
Oh, if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat! If you want to skip all my small talk and get straight to the land of glory that is Craftsy, you can click here.

I love that I can learn so many things right from my home, and from experienced crafters!

This week, since I’m Participating in the 30 Day Slow Cooker Challenge, I decided it would be a good time to take a class on using my slow cooker. I almost didn’t sign up for that class, thinking I know all I need to know about slow cooking. Truth is, I don’t. So, why not take a class and see what there is to learn?

In yesterday’s lesson I learned a recipe that I think my family will love. I’ve also learned some great tips along the way that I think will help me adapt my non- slow cooker recipes. That will come in handy on those days when I know I’m going to have a busy evening.

What’s next for me?
I’m so excited! Today I saw that Craftsy has a Mexican Street Food class. How fun is that? I love Mexican food! I can’t wait to do that one but I’m making myself finish the two I have before starting another. (It’s the entrepreneurs curse!)
You can count on seeing some recipes after I’ve done that course! YUM!

How about you?
What will you learn this fall?
Since you’re visiting this site, or on my email list, I’m guessing you have some level of interest in food. Maybe you love to cook, maybe you hate it.
Either way, I think a cooking class is just what you need.

It will either allow you to feed your passion, or find an enjoyable twist on something you might find to be boring, or difficult. Hey, you have to cook, you might as well have fun doing it right?

How about a free pizza making class? Even if you hate to cook, this could be fun. I make some amazing pizza, if I do say so myself, but I’m sure I can still learn more. I think I’ll sign up for that class too. Hey, we could compare notes!

Once you’ve tried a free class and become the world’s greatest pizza baker (is there an actual name for that?) you can go on and learn something else.

It’s a beautiful time of year to spread your wings and try something new.

Oh SO cool! I totally just bookmarked this site. We got my daughter a sewing machine for her birthday. It’s what she wanted. The only problem, I don’t know how to sew to be able to teach her or help her in any way. I see that there are sewing classes on craftsy.com too!! Awesome!! :)

Yes! They have all kinds of classes! I didn’t want to mention too many and overwhelm people. They do sales quite often so watch my facebook page, I’ll post them. Or, if you do one of their free classes, you’ll get emails. (lot’s of them, to tell the truth.)
